A River Endangered

NYRI is a high voltage interconnect transmission line proposed by a private Canadian firm to bring low cost upstate New York energy to high demand downstate areas.  Their proposed routes follow closely on existing lines [ some just 20 years old and not always used to capacity].  Our research explored the implications of market deregulation, energy production and transmission standards, as well as the potential impact of distributed resources to ask the question:  Can the impact of new power transmission be reduced?  What precedent would the designation of a corridor in New York state set for the country?  Publication executed while attending Columbia University Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design program with Mike Bello, Jay Lim, Dynelle Volesky Long, David Luckmire and Christopher Reynolds under direction of Richard Plunz.
