As a founding principal of Splice Design, Tonja has a strong belief in the value of community to enhance the future of design. She believes people are influenced by the nature of the spaces around them so she begins her design process with a reorientation of a person’s perspective and perception of their surroundings, whether in a private retreat or a public social space. Tonja starts with research and analysis to creatively solve design and construction challenges.

Working in architecture and design for more than 20 years, Tonja has managed a full range of projects – residential design, public spaces and small and large retail and commercial structures. Her design projects have spanned international and domestic assignments; large commercial retail structures in Dubai and Santiago; a convention center expansion in New Orleans, as well as office buildings in Georgia and Florida.

Tonja recognizes the importance of a collaborative relationship with clients in order to create buildings and spaces that enhance and resonate with our lives. Her strategy is to communicate clearly how multiple influences create a clear dynamic design. No matter the scale, she is able to strategically and pragmatically think how each individual element relates to the whole.

dawn m. bennett. aia. ica&ca

Master of Architecture. Washington University – St. Louis. 1995
Bachelor of Science. Major in Design. Cum Laude. Clemson. 1992

Professional Experience:

Harrison Design Associates. Atlanta
tvs design. Atlanta
Stang & Newdow. Atlanta
The Lawrence Group. St. Louis
Center for Contemporary Culture. Barcelona

Dawn has worked in architecture and design for more than 20 years. She has lead the design and development of projects in architecture and interiors for retail boutiques, hospitality, corporate offices, large scale conference centers and most recently, single-family residential.

A master’s degree and scholarship in traditional American and European architecture were the earlier rungs on her career ladder. After working with large commercial firms, Dawn reached the place she had in mind all along, working with the client’s input to hear, “it’s exactly what I wanted but could never have visualized myself.” Dawn views her role as listening to the client and her instincts until she knows she’s “found it.”

As a founding principal at Splice Design, Dawn blends the methodical of her engineer father and creativity of her artist mother for her design DNA. Her eureka moment is also the client’s, many with design backgrounds themselves. For them the ultimate reward is a space beyond expectation, even when convinced of what to expect at the outset.
